What was once known as Wabasha's Prairie and the village of Keoxah (a Dakota word meaning "The Homestead") and what used to be the home of Chief Ernest Wabasha's ancestors, Chief Wapasha II and his band of Mdewakantonwans, is now known as Winona, Minnesota. The word Winona comes from the Dakota work Wenonah and means first born daughter.
Recently, hereditary Chief Earnest Wabasah returned to the home of his ancesotors and got an Eagle's eye view of the city of Winona on the bluffs at Garvin Heights Park.
